More Christmas Fun
A friend gave Noelle an Amish Friendship Bread starter and she had so much fun with it. Better yet, baking in your pjs.....
Our church Christmas dinner was a lot of fun and of course I ate too much. We had cinnamon ham and come on, look at this dessert table.....
One of the ladies of our church, Martha, is a florist and does such a beautiful job on the centerpieces. Names were drawn for them to be taken home. I didn't win one but got a picture to share.
The evening wouldn't have been complete without something fun for everyone to do. We split up into teams to sing The 12 Days of Christmas. Each team had to sing their part and make up motions. Kyle was on team 1 and provided the partridge (envision a shadow puppet bird) in the pear tree. Noelle was on team 2 and they were graceful (slow flapping of arms) turtle doves. My team was the 8 maids-a-milking and we pretended to be milking a cow. I so wish I could have gotten pictures of it all, lol!

Amaretto Fudge Cappuccino
I was in the mood for a cappuccino but they are so expensive. I went online and found this recipe.Really, really good!
Note: I used regular brewed coffee in place of the instant and hot cocoa mix in place of the chocolate syrup (its what I had on hand).
Early Christmas Present
Its nice to get up and have quiet time in the mornings. I'm not really a morning person but have learned to adapt since getting married and having kids. Sure, as soon as I write this, I hear movement above.
Anyway..........
We finally got an "entertainment" computer for our living room.
Why?
We like to watch Netflix movies online and this is so much better than crowding around our other computer in the dining room (a too crowded room already). We also love to listen to online radio, I want to convert our family VHS movies to DVD, not to mention having a second computer will make it possible for both kids to be online at the same time or for me to keep up with my online activities while they share the other one ;) Merry Christmas to us!!
Owen has an opinion about all this extra activity. What do you think it is?

Live Nativity
Our live nativity over the weekend went really well!! It was a great outreach to our community with 234 cars and 634 people going through (yes, we are a small town). Many people commented that they were blessed and wanted to know if we were going to do it next year? Yes, we're planning on it.
It was more like a Journey through Bethlehem than a live nativity but since I don't get to decide on the name of it, it works ;) I think we should add more to the town of Bethlehem (blacksmith, carpenter shop, etc.), a lot more people, warmer costumes, and many other areas we didn't see a need until we actually did things the first time.
My mom and step-dad went through and commented that they liked all the people walking around in costume along with many animals (not just posing at stations), it made it feel as if you were going through a real town.
The weather was cold and clear the first night, cold and gently snowing with a little wind the second. We tried having replacements for all the roles but didn't have quite enough people to do that. Hopefully more will join us next year now that we've actually done one. I know I'll be involved next year.
What was my character? I was a market vendor (even spent a little time filling in as Mary). Kirk was a wise man, Kyle was a shepherd, and Noelle was a servant at the inn.
All I have right now are some pictures I took during the building of sets and sewing costumes. As soon as I get some pictures of the actual event, I'll post them as well.

Holiday Mood
Our church is putting together a live nativity this year. A church in a nearby town had been doing it for a number of years but decided not to this year. Now its our turn. :)
I am the actor/costume coordinator and am enjoying this opportunity as well as the fellowship of my fellow seemstresses at church. I wasn't sure how much of a sewer I was before we started but have found that I'm pretty good at it and really enjoy it. Our best costumes, by far, are the Roman Soldiers -- Way to go Pat!
All of this is definitely getting me in the Christmas spirit. Hopefully I can post some pics to share with you later on.
I'm also daydreaming about how we'll decorate our house for Christmas this year. We have two artificial trees but I have never put them both up before. We always put the newer one up in our living room to put all the presents under. I want the other one up in my craft/den/library room where I'll be spending a lot of time making presents for family and friends. You know, to keep that holiday spirit fed :)
A new tradition I want to start with our family is celebrating Three King's Day (Epiphany) on January 6th. I want more truth in our celebrations so am leaving the wise men out of our nativity display until then. Jesus was a child living in a house in Bethlehem when he was visited by the magi and given the gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. I'm not completely sure just how we'll celebrate that day as I am still doing research on it.
For Thanksgiving, we will have dinner at my Aunt Alice's house and then travel to Kirk's parent's house for dessert later on. We always have somewhere to go so never have leftover turkey which is a bummer. So I started having a special turkey dinner with friends during Advent, problem solved.

Our First Snowfall
This is what we woke up to on the 29th. The kids had fun throwing snowballs and shoveling our's and the neighbor's sidewalks. It snowed most of the day and through the night. It was so pretty when I got up on the 30th, I had to take more pictures.
Its all melted for now though. That's okay, I really wasn't ready for winter weather, yet.

Cleaning and Rearranging
Taking care of a small house with four people and a dog can become interesting. I'm going through a period of wanting to de-clutter, clean, and rearrange. I also want to repaint a lot of our rooms. All the sudden I'm feeling ambitious :)
My first task is redoing our "library". So far, I have both the old computers set up side by side on a table we bought when we started homeschooling. Above the computers I installed two very large shelves for more storage. There are many other bookshelves that I have to redo in that room but I'll get to them later.
Noelle and I made a spot on the opposite side of the room for her desk that Cindy gave her. She loves to draw and write so this gives her a spot she can leave and come back to without having to clean up. She was forever covering every horizontal space with her papers, then needing to clear it for meals or for others to use that particular spot. She is quite happy with this new set-up and so am I.
I'm in the process of cleaning out and redoing the shelves in the one large closet in my craft/sewing/reading room. This will take a while ;) Why do I save things only to throw them away a year or two later without having used them? I think I'm finding it easier to let paper things go since I can probably find it, when I do need it, on the internet.

Twilight
I've read the first book in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Series and really enjoyed it. I don't usually get into vampires but its a very creative story. Vampires sparkle in the sun? Interesting.
I don't have the cash to buy the books so I have to rely on my local library. I have New Moon on reserve and it was supposed to be back on the 29th, its still out and I am getting impatient.........
I saw the Twilight movie trailer and well, I don't think I'll be seeing it. Once I have read a book, I don't usually like the "creative license" of the movie. I know it doesn't matter what I think but there it is.

Computers
I learned how to install an Ethernet NIC (network interface card) into my Windows ME computer and then connect it to a home network. (I still need to get an Ethernet cable to connect my new network capable printer so I can print from either computer.)
Its quite interesting trying to find software that actually works with ME. So why bother? Well, the computer was given to us by Kirk's great aunt when she got her new computer. Free is pretty good incentive to work with what you've got, lol.
Now I should be able to get more accomplished online, we'll see.

Another Family Trip
It was a whirlwind two days and the kids had their first stay in a hotel, although none of us got much sleep. We were going to go camping but the weather made us make a change in plans. We wanted a whole day at Carnegie Science Center, so we slowly worked our way there the day before. We drove, ate brunch at Eat n' Park, shopped at the Grove City Outlet Mall, drove, checked into The Red Roof Inn off the interstate, shopped at The Cranberry Mall, ate Wendy's for dinner, back to hotel room, watched some tv, and went to bed. Next morning; ate donuts for breakfast, got ready and packed everything up, drove into Pittsburgh (ah, the exhilerating stress of roadwork and messed up traffic), walked around until CSC opened in an hour, saw Heinz Field, walked along the Ohio River, and took pictues. Time for CSC, four floors of science and a submarine to explore. After experiencing everything we could, we started our very long drive home (we did break it up by stopping to eat dinner at Hoss's).

What Gives?
Its so quiet here right now. Everyone else is in bed and I have time all to myself.
I thought I'd do more *writing* by having a blog but it has basically just been a journal of our lives. As I go about my day I have all these thoughts come into my head and they would make good blog material except when I get on here, I can't think of anything to write. My mind goes blank.

I believe that abortion is wrong and you may believe otherwise. This post isn't to argue your stance with me. I'm not condemning anyone who has had an abortion. What I am confused about is how someone can believe that abortion is wrong for them but thinks its a choice for others???? I don't get the reasoning behind this.

Our Date
We got a little dressed up and had the kids take a picture before we left. The background had a lot to be desired so I had to at least fix that before posting the pic ;)
We then headed over to The Porterhouse Restaurant. We each had a salad but Kirk ordered pepper steak over rice and I ordered southwestern chicken with a side of green beans with bacon. It was all really good and of course I couldn't finish and brought home the rest.
Next we decided to go "window" shopping for a vehicle. My van is nearing its end and we need to replace it sometime soon. Some really nice SUVs were open on the Chevy/GMC lot so of course we had to sit in them :) New is not on the agenda but it was fun to look and day dream. I'm favorable to a Pacifica or a Taurus X, probably another van though, we'll see.
I wish there was more to do in our town but its nice not having to drive somewhere else.
Kirk also bought tickets to a Todd Agnew concert on Friday so the fun isn't over yet.

We then headed over to The Porterhouse Restaurant. We each had a salad but Kirk ordered pepper steak over rice and I ordered southwestern chicken with a side of green beans with bacon. It was all really good and of course I couldn't finish and brought home the rest.
Next we decided to go "window" shopping for a vehicle. My van is nearing its end and we need to replace it sometime soon. 19 Years
Today is our 19th anniversary and we are going out to the new fancy restaurant in town. It was made possible by a very generous couple that Kirk did some work for. How many people get a $50 gift card as a thank you even after being paid for the work? The timing was perfect and I'll let you know how the food and service are.

Olympics
The kids and I have been watching as much of the Olympics as we can at my friend's house. We've also been watching recaps online too. Noelle and I are enthralled by the diving and gymnastics. To those of you who know my background in gymnastics, this should be no surprise :)
I was so happy for the men's US team to get bronze. Its too bad one of them didn't make the medal stand in the all-around but there are still the individual event finals. My favorite to watch has been Jonathan Horton.
I really get into the women's gymnastics! I find myself getting excited when they do really well and stick their landings. I feel bad when they falter or fall. Even with the controversy about the Chinese girls' ages, I think they are very impressive. My favorite for the all-around was Shawn Johnson but I'm happy for Nastia Liukin. I'm looking forward to watching the event finals.
On a side note:
Our town YMCA is finally putting together a gymnastics team and I'm excited for that, it always stunk living in a small town and having to travel for things like this. I'll be rooting for all the girls and boys who compete for our town. They will have their own facility permanently set up so they can focus all their time and energy on getting better and stronger. The old recreational gymnastics class always had to set up and tear down at every class, not to mention the gym wasn't big enough to set up all the equipment at once.
Its also been really great to watch Michael Phelps, WOW! I love that the men's 4x100m free US relay team ended up smashing the French. Did you see how many calories Michael consumes in a day? Wish I had a problem keeping weight on, lol. Breaking world records and winning gold, amazing!
